A mild April night stirs spirits from beyond time. The wind blows gently from the East beckoning mystical creatures of all creeds to the magical Goblin Realms. As the portal opens you feel the energy pulse. Tonight is different.
Tonight The Ritual of The Ancients takes place - and you are invited.
The Goblin Ball returns with a new immersive fantasy experience for 2022.
As the moon rises on the Temple of Exordium the veil between Human and Fae allows all to assume their true form. Rulers rub shoulders with Fae while dark spirits and goblins watch from the shadows. The most talented fantasy artists and producers toil hard to breath life into a veritable trove of creatures. This is truly an evening for those who have dreamed of experiencing the other side of the looking glass. The Goblin Ball welcomes those who wishes to shake the mortal coil and forget the mundane while promenading in costume at the most magical and fantasy fuelled evening in Melbourne.
The rich red dressings of The Temple of Exordium glow as guests dance to the earthly sounds of the quintessential 80s and 90s (and beyond) music. The royal photographers capture each moment for the history books (and your own face of books) with the utmost pleasure and each guest leaves with a special gift to commemorate their journey. The Goblin Ball is truly dedicated to the dreamers and the explorers of worlds beyond the earthly plane.
The Temple of Exordium features
Welcome to the World of Exordium, The forgotten temple of The Ancients.
Once you arrive you are assigned your alliance for the evening. Are you called to help the forest witches of Wicacea? Do the elvish people of Sidhe Crann call to you? Maybe the magical kin of Hyclaci need your help locating a lost artefact - or the aquatic Lok Agra seeks your assistance in the grottos. Whatever the calling, you will impact the outcome of The Ritual of The Ancients.
You were foretold in the great prophecy. Tonight is the night The Ancients rise and you could be the key to helping the alliance achieve their mysterious goals.
The drinks flow freely and the music plays into the evening. As the night concludes, you leave with new friends and foes but the question remains…
Will you leave a hero, villain... or victor of the Valuable crown?
What should I expect?
The Goblin Ball is a unique event. There is music, dancing and drinking with friends old and new. Performances of cabaret and burlesque highlight the evening and keep spirits high while an engaging mythology unfolds through the night. Guests choose to celebrate with their friends or to soak up the experience in an extravagant environment. Those who wish to celebrate can turn up and expect to be mesmerised.
Guests are encouraged to explore the many stories from other worlds as they play out around them. Creating costumes and sometimes characters, guests who wish to experience a little more are encouraged to read up on the mythology and attend as their own character for the evening.
Your journey is up to you.
Is there an age restriction?
Due to our themes, entertainment and venues, guests must be 18+ to attend The Goblin Ball.
Are costumes mandatory?
To help with the immersion, guests are encouraged to dress in costumes fitting the theme, or formal attire. Fantasy costumes are encouraged for those wishing to take a chance at being crowned as best dressed.
Do I need to know the story before I attend?
Not at all! The Goblin Ball fosters an environment of exploration and celebration. You can come and enjoy the entertainment and dancing and the rest is completely up to you. We have some traditions you may want to read up on in The Mythology section, but your enjoyment and engagement is completely up to you!
What entertainment should I expect?
Featuring performances from some of Australia’s greatest artists, and occasionally international stars The Goblin Ball has a number of Pop-Up and scripted acts. The evening is a scripted FairyTale where guests are encouraged (but not required) to engage with. Character actors roam the kingdom engaging guests to complete tasks, quests or even pledge allegiance to their cause. As always the dance floor gathers much attention, and guests can often find fairies and goblins busting a move through the night.
What is Trinket Trading?
One of the unique traditions at The Goblin Ball is trinket trading. Long time guests and new guests like to bring small offerings for the fairies and trade them between each other to take home as memento of the night. This is completely optional, and our magical creatures will sometimes have a small gift for you in exchange for a small task or quest. There is more information on Trinket Trading in The Mythology section.
